Welcome to Cat-Tales

George - born 14th April 1993

George on the balcony in Scotland
George was born in my front room, and was the second kitten of three.  Sparky was starting to get the idea of motherhood and cleaned him up really well.  His white markings were clear from the first moment, but got a lot more attractive as his face changed from being puppy-like (to me new-born kittens look a bit like puppies) to kitten-like.

He started to make good friends with Sooty from about 6 weeks old, and they spent many hours asleep togeather until Sooty dies.  He was funny whenever a new kitten arrived - there would be lots of hissing for a few days, and then the urge to clean another cat would take over!  The only cat he doesn't get on with is Rufus, who came not as a kitten but as an adult of 3 ½ - in his prime.

George as a kittenGeorge was only 8 or 10 weeks old when he was first taken to my house in Scotland.  The kittens all travelled well, and we arrived safe and sound.  Over the years he has been there many more times, and became a formidable hunter.  He also had the habit of eating what he caught - not very nice if he choose to do so under the bed!  Happily most of the victims (something like 95% or more) were furry rather than feathered, and whilst it's not nice removing the evidence it does help to ensure the rodents stay outside!

Now he's a bit older the hunting seems to have stopped, but he's a very loving cat who now likes nothing better than to cuddle up and get his tummy ticked - the rough tough hunter has changed into the gentleman of ease!  He's a very handsome boy, and had a fairly sucessful show career.  He won a 'Best Whiskers' award at Ackworth, and qualified for the Supreme one year by winning his Open Class at the North West CC show, but he became more and more averse to being picked up so he wasn't entered for the Supreme, and is now not shown.  He loves the business of being in a pen with lots of people making a fuss of him, so he might make an appearance on exhibition again - everyone likes to see a cat that likes them!  He loves being in Scotland, which is 6-8 hours drive from home.  Unfortunately he gets travel sick on small roads and has been know to make a horrid smelly mess in his box, but it's only a problem on smaller roads.  He also needs grooming with a slicker as although a short-haired cat he as a very dense undercoat.  Happily he shows no signs of developing cancer in the way his mother and uncle did, and I look forward to enjoying his company for many years to come.
